About the Opportunity

Note: This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designated role. Therefore, only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples are eligible to apply.

The role of the Social and Emotional Wellbeing worker is to strengthen access to culturally informed, flexible support. The Social Emotional Wellbeing worker will provide culturally safe support and mentoring to young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who are engaged with headspace. You will work with young people and families in a strengths-based and choice-focused way.

As a key member of the headspace team, you will aim to support young people and their families who present with mental health difficulties. You will help young people understand the impact of mental and physical health, aiming to ensure young people feel good about seeking help.  

In this role, you will be well supported by a team and work closely with all staff across headspace Darwin and headspace Palmerston

To be successful you will:

  • Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • Hold a Certificate IV qualification (or similar) in health or community services field (or similar), currently undertaking study or be willing to complete further study
  • Have prior experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people and their families, providing social and emotional support. Experience with risk assessments is an advantage
  • Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, their families, communities, staff, and Aboriginal controlled organisations

Experience of working closely with and having a strong understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture would be considered an advantage.
