About the Opportunity

As Counsellor, you will provide culturally appropriate and responsive counselling and groupwork to individuals, couples, families and children. You will provide assessment, counselling, safety planning, information and referrals using evidence and strengths based therapeutic frameworks.

You will use your well-developed assessment, safety planning, time management, collaboration and networking skills to ensure all services meet the needs of individuals, couples, families and children and builds capacity of the target group.

What we are looking for:

  • Higher education (tertiary) qualifications in social science discipline such as Psychology, Social Work or Counselling resulting in eligibility for membership/credentialing with relevant professional / registration body are essential.
  • Counselling experience working with individuals, couples, families and children. Willingness to undertake training in specialist areas such as a Child Consultant for child inclusive practice within family dispute resolution
  • Well-developed practice base and familiarity with using evidenced based counselling techniques and therapeutic interventions such as trauma informed practice, narrative therapy, restorative practice, play therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, solution focused and strengths-based approaches.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as family law, child protection and domestic and family violence
  • Proven experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, staff and Aboriginal Controlled Organisations.

Experience of working closely with and having a strong understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture would be considered an advantage.
