About the Opportunity

This is a part time position with afterhours and weekend work required, as SHAK operates outside standard business hours.

Applicants must be available to work evenings and weekends in line with program requirements.

Reporting to the Program Manager SHAK, the Lead Youth Worker provides onsite leadership, mentoring and operational support to Youth Workers, Youth Activity Workers and Trainee Youth Workers. You will guide best practice, respond to critical incidents, ensure policies and procedures are followed, and support the delivery of highquality youth activities.

You will also engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the needs of young people, families and community are reflected in SHAK Youth Centre programs.

About You

This role is ideal for an experienced youth worker who enjoys leading staff on shift and supporting vulnerable young people through culturally safe, inclusive and traumainformed engagement within a youth dropin environment.

You will bring:

  • Qualifications in Human Services, Social Sciences or Community Services, along with relevant experience working with highrisk and vulnerable young people
  • Demonstrated experience leading and supporting staff in communitybased youth programs
  • Strong knowledge of the child protection system and local youth service networks
  • Proven experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, staff and Aboriginal Controlled Organisations.

Please note: It is a requirement that prior to commencing in this role, you must provide 100 points of identification to confirm Australian citizenship or eligibility to work in Australia; possess a Working with Children (Ochre Card), a current National Criminal History Check (within 3 months) and a valid NT driver’s licence. 

 

Experience of working closely with and having a strong understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture would be considered an advantage.
