The Deal was instigated in 2019, through community action to address the long-standing inequities and related economic and social issues in Barkly communities.

The Deal is a ten-year commitment to 28 initiatives to be delivered in the Barkly. It is also a commitment from the government partners to a new way of working with the community based on a shared vision and agreed priorities and principles.
