Expression of Interest - Grant Writers

Background

Establishedin 2019, the Partnership Support Service (PSS) works alongside Aboriginal Controlled Organisations to deliver stronger Aboriginal led services for community.

Anglicare NT believes supporting selfdetermination requires a strong commitment to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations.

Our goal is to build the capability, long-term independence, and sustainability of Aboriginal organisations we work with to achieve their goals, while building genuine partnerships based on mutual trust, and respect.

We do this through offering a range of supports to partner organisations on a cost‑recovery basis.

How we work (our approach)

How we partner and work with Aboriginal organisations is critical to achieving the goals of partners organisations.

Our approach is underpinned by Anglicare NT’s commitment to reconciliation.

Through the PSS, we:

  • Recognise and respect the unique and diverse knowledge, skills, stories and practices of Aboriginal people.
  • Listen deeply and build genuine relationships that respect and recognise the existing rights, strengths and capacities of Aboriginal people and communities we work with.
  •  Work respectfully and collaboratively with Aboriginal organisations to build capacity through sharing expertise, knowledge, and resources.
  • Are flexible – we adapt and respond to meet the needs of each partner and community.
  • Commit to truth-telling - we acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonisation and will not impose our worldview, values or approaches on Aboriginal organisations and people we work with.
  • Foster two-way learning and grow cultural competency – we commit to growing our understanding of Aboriginal people, culture, and communities. We will share learnings and our relationships, and our services will adapt to each organisation and community we work in, to ensure culturally safe and responsive engagement.
  • Self-determination of Aboriginal people’s decision-making and control is prioritised. Aboriginal organisations we work with are in the driver’s seat!
  • Remember our place. We will do no harm and not seek to impose our worldviews, values, and agendas on those we work with.
  • Agree to build sustainability not dependence - as capability and capacity grows, our involvement reduces and ceases at an agreed time.
  • Be transparent, accountable and focused on continuous improvement in all that we do. Together we will develop a clear sense of each other’s expectations and work within agreed structures and processes.
  • We do what we say we will do!

Grant writing

A key service offering from the PSS is the preparation of grant applications on behalf of partner organisations.

The development of grant proposals on behalf of Aboriginal organisations requires a strong understanding of the PSS approach (as outlined above) and that codesign and principles of self-determination are adhered to. We work closely with partner organisations throughout the grant writing process to ensure proposals meet the requirements of the funder and the organisation’s expectation and existing capacity.

To be considered, through this Expression of Interest applicants need to be able to write high-quality grant proposals and collate necessary supporting documentation, within agreed timeframes. This may include collecting relevant data, developing, and reviewing budget proposals.

Key competencies sought from potential grant writers includes:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in not-for-profit research and grant writing (preferably within the Aboriginal Controlled Organisation sector).
  •  Demonstrated ability to prepare written communication, reports, correspondence and proposals.
  • A sound understanding of matters impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and an ability to communicate and engage sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
