About headspace

headspace are a busy and innovative youth mental health service providing a variety of mental health, medical, sexual and other health related services as well as vocational, functional groups and social services to young people aged 12 to 25 years and their families.

About the Opportunity

The Mental Health Practitioner will be responsible for providing early intervention clinical assessments and therapeutic interventions for young people with mild to moderate mental health issues and their families accessing headspace Katherine. You will work with the headspace team to deliver youth friendly, family inclusive, culturally appropriate services to young people aged 12-25.

 

The role will provide professional and effective therapeutic interventions and support services to young people and their families according to best practice standards. The position will provide clear referral pathways for young people to access internal and external services and maintain current data standards and clinical records in a timely and professional manner. The Mental Health Practitioner will support the work of other teams as necessary and conduct intakes and deliver community awareness, information sessions and group work as required.

The Mental Health Practitioner will participate in clinical supervision and consultation and will work well in a multidisciplinary team

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • An approved tertiary qualification and minimum 1 years' experience in a health-related discipline (Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Psychologist, Counsellor or Aboriginal Health Practitioner) and registration with the relevant regulatory body. If you do not currently have this qualification you must be willing to undertake relevant studies.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of individual client work including screening, assessment, targeted goal, and outcome focused interventions to young people and their families.
  • Experience working with young people within a multi-disciplinary mental health or youth service setting and a demonstrated understanding of mental health issues impacting young people, best practice treatment options, support services and co-morbidities.
  • Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, their families, communities, staff, and Aboriginal controlled organisations.
