Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering primary and clinical health care services to the Aboriginal people in Katherine and surrounding communities. Wurli prides itself on delivering a range of health and wellbeing services to the community in a style and manner that makes clients feel welcome and comfortable. Services include acute and general care, chronic disease, Women’s & Children health, men’s health, alcohol and other drugs, social and emotional wellbeing and client support services.


The role of the SPW is to provide non-clinical, assertive outreach, follow-up care and practical support to individuals directly after a suicide attempt, improve response, treatment and provide early support for clients with suicidal behaviours, for individuals and engagement with families and support networks. The role will require you to work closely with case managers and other Community Services employee’s in order to deliver the best possible comprehensive service to clients and their families

Wurli is looking for a suitably motivated individual who can demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in mental health, social services or allied health; and/or lived experience of mental health
  • experience and understanding of working with people with suicidality and/or deliberate self-harm
  • three (3) years’ experience, working in the mental health field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current issues, standards and trends and relevant legislation guiding clinical practice in the delivery of mental health and social and emotional wellbeing services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • An Ability to develop and cultivate sound community and client relationships and communicate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous people

 Prerequisites for the position include:

  • Qualifications in suicide prevention
  • Current Northern Territory Driver’s License
  • National Police Record Check (not less than 3 months old); and
  • Working with Children’s Clearance.
